The other day I read about Priyanka Chopra’s decision to repeat, yes REPEAT her outfits because she believed it was a lesson to her fans plus being environmentally friendly !
Kudos to her 🙂
Being an actor I have felt the pressure of getting dressed up in a new outfit everytime I stepped out for an event/party which was going to be covered by the press !
So much so that I started yearning for the good old days(barely 10 years ago) when the media was not omnipresent & people hardly cared about what you wore . . Really nobody cared a damn about what you wore ! ! ! And even if they did it wasn’t in the papers the next day or on various fashion police websites.
My problem is not just about it being ok to repeat your clothes but also about the pressure of looking a certain way .
The last 10 years have been rather difficult . . . especially after my daughter was born & I started my journey of being slightly overweight & always fighting the battle of the bulge .
So the pressure of never repeating your clothes coupled with weight gain has
sometimes put me off from going out for a public event because :
1)I had nothing new to wear
2)I didn’t have the time, the inclination or the energy to get my hair & make up done
Because if I repeated an outfit it would be committing fashion hara-kiri & if hair & make up was not done then I would be terribly under dressed in front of all those shiny glossy women .
Sigh ! ! !
Now don’t think even for a moment that I don’t like dressing up or shopping !
I love both 🙂 But I want to do it when I feel like it . . I don’t want to go buy a new outfit just because I can’t repeat my clothes & somedays I just can’t be bothered with doing hair & make up . . . and I think I look very nice without it . . . thank you 🙂 🙂
So in that case how do you explain to someone who writes about my hips that “honey there’s more to me than my hips” & a fashion stylist who commented on my hair not looking good curled, that it was this naturally curly hair which got me my 1st modelling assignment 🙂
Honestly I’m all for free speech & everything but please stop judging people by what they wear & how they look .
I’m guilty of it too, but now I try to look beyond it . . .
Let it not be about our clothes & vanity . . .
Let it be about who we are on the inside & not about what we look like on the outside !
Because at the end of the day you don’t want to be the Emperor who refused to acknowledge that he was wearing no “new clothes “.
